Why is Black Panther defined as a mainstream film?
The movie Black panther, produced by Kevin Feige & David J. Grant, is defined as a mainstream film due to the main genres allocated with mainstream films being identified within the movie such as, action, sci-fi & superhero. However although it suits majority of the criteria related to films identified as mainstream, it also suits properties of an independent film. For example, the narrative/ theme of the movie gives off escapist entertainment due to the story which consists of big/ famous stars in the media industry- for this instance: Chadwick Boseman & Micheal B Jordan etc. Unlike other mainstreams Black Panther doesn’t have a closed ending however it has an opening ending which is a feature of a independent film- leading to a potential sequel of the movie. Sequels in marinara are seen as normal due to many high end mainstream films leading into a sequel, whether they are a franchise or not. What also makes it a mainstream film is that the main aim of the movie is commercial success due to the budget used to produce the film was a lot of money, they relied on the movie to generate that money back & evidently they made more out of it which benefiting them being able to pay the stars featured in the movie, the production line/ crew, the merchandise produced to build a greater mass audience as well as the distribution system on a larger scale. The movie was financially successful as the movie generated $1.344 billion Dollars and only took $200 million dollars to make & $165 million to advertise, which means the company earned back 5 times the amount of what they spent in the first place. because the movie is apart of an ongoing famous franchise where all the movies contain an interlink with one another building a chain old storylines with only one ending overall (Endgame). This is what had given the movie preexisting audience determining them to have a guaranteed outcome in distribution already.
